With a broad and diversified portfolio, AGC presents at Interplast its fluoropolymers developed to meet critical applications in industrial environments. The solutions serve markets such as semiconductors, automotive, construction, electronics and energy, where chemical resistance, thermal stability, durability and reliability are essential requirements.
AGC’s fluoropolymers stand out for their unique properties, adaptable to different production processes and extreme environments. Among the highlights is the launch of new AFLAS™ FFKM grades (SF grades). These fluoroelastomers were developed without the use of any fluorinated surfactants or polymerization solvents, maintaining the already recognized high level of performance of the AFLAS line. This innovation represents a significant advancement by combining technical performance with an approach more aligned with current demands for more responsible and controlled production processes.
Another innovation is the completion of the UL2809 third-party verification for the Fluon® PTFE fluoropolymer resin, grade G. This is the world’s first case of a PTFE resin verified using recycled fluorite as a raw material. This achievement demonstrates AGC’s commitment to traceability, transparency, and the development of solutions that integrate technical performance and more conscious use of resources.
AGC’s presence at Interplast also reinforces the versatility of its fluoropolymers, which meet a wide range of industrial applications. Each material is developed to meet specific challenges, whether in aggressive environments, high-temperature processes, contact with chemicals, or stringent requirements for durability and reliability.
AGC FLUOROPOLYMERS FOR ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
AGC fluoropolymers are characterized by their technological features and the company’s ability to serve different industrial segments with tailor-made solutions. Fluon® PTFE, the original and most widely used fluoropolymer, is recognized for its chemical inertness to most chemical agents, as well as its non-stick and low-friction properties. These characteristics make the material ideal for applications such as coatings for glass and metal fabrics, tapes, tubes, wire coating, gaskets, and as an additive for other resins.
Fluon® ETFE is a robust thermoplastic fluoropolymer with excellent resistance to weathering, heat, and chemicals, as well as high optical transparency. Its applications include films for architectural coverings, such as large stadiums, solar panels, electronic components, and wire and cable coatings used in the automotive and aviation industries. In the automotive sector, ETFE resins are widely used in hoses, thanks to their excellent chemical and thermal resistance.
These resins meet the requirements of Proconve L8, as they have an extremely low permeation rate, ensuring that fuel gases do not escape from the hoses. This characteristic is fundamental to meeting environmental and safety standards, as well as contributing to the efficiency and reliability of modern automotive systems.
VARIETY OF APPLICATIONS
AFLAS®, AGC’s high-performance fluoroelastomer, offers superior resistance to concentrated acids, alkalis, and amines compared to conventional fluorinated rubbers. This performance makes it ideal for applications such as oil seals, gaskets, hoses, tubes, and heat-resistant wires, especially in harsh industrial environments where material durability is crucial for the continuity of the production process.
LUMIFLON™ occupies a unique position in AGC’s portfolio as the world’s first solvent-soluble fluoropolymer. Recognized for its superior resistance to weathering and UV rays, LUMIFLON™ is widely used in high-durability paints and coatings for architectural and industrial applications. Its stability over time contributes to maintaining the appearance and protection of surfaces, even in harsh environmental conditions.
Fluon® PFA, in turn, is an easily processable perfluoropolymer that combines properties similar to those of PTFE, such as high chemical resistance and excellent electrical insulation characteristics. Among its applications are coatings for semiconductor processing equipment, piping and wire coating, sectors that require materials of very high purity and reliability.
MPCs, or Melt Processable Compounds, complete the portfolio presented at Interplast. These materials offer excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals, acids, bases and oils, making them ideal for applications in aggressive environments. Their applications include electronic and semiconductor materials, wires and cables, automotive and aerospace transport, industrial coatings, tubes and films.
