Innovation and Sustainability stand out in Arkema’s Special Materialspecial material
As a global leader in specialty materials, Arkema is known for manufacturing additives for PVC, engineering plastics, biopolymers, polyamides and thermosetting resins. Visitors to Interplast will have the chance to explore a variety of products at stand 884, which highlight Arkema’s innovation and commitment to sustainability, as well as follow the different applications of the presented portfolio.
Kynar® polyvinylidene fluoride copolymer resin is designed for extreme inertia in smoke and flame environments. Rilsan® high-performance polyamide is a 100% bio-based material, made from castor oil, which offers versatility, safety and durability, in line with the concept of sustainability. Luperox® organic peroxide is essential for crosslinking EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) films used in solar modules.
Elium® thermoplastic liquid acrylic resin has recyclable properties, making it an excellent option for injection and extrusion of plastic parts. Additives for PVC and engineering plastics facilitate recyclability, improve the processing and thermoforming of recyclable materials, contributing to sustainability. The Biostrength® impact modifier, optimized for bio polymers, provides greater resistance and durability. Pebax® elastomer, known for its unique combination of lightness and flexibility, is ideal for shoe soles.
SUSTAINABILITY IS A PRIORITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL MATERIALS IN ADDITIVES AND RESINS
Arkema’s PVC additives offer high performance and contribute to environmental sustainability. KYNAR Aquatec® resin, for example, maintains high solar reflectance and emissivity over the years, preserving the white tone of paints used on roofs and facades. This results in more thermally pleasant indoor environments, reducing the need for air conditioning and saving electricity.
Another highlight are bio-compounds derived from renewable resources, such as plants and organic waste, which offer a sustainable and environmentally responsible alternative. These materials are ideal for a variety of applications, from packaging to high-tech components.
In response to the dwindling supply of fossil resources, Arkema is focusing its research efforts on renewable raw materials to produce green solutions and bioplastics, which have a lower environmental impact. In 2023, 11% of the Group’s revenue was generated from renewable materials, a significant milestone that demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability.
Arkema offers solutions that are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 12), which aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. An example of this portfolio is Rilsan® polyamide, a 100% renewable material with low CO2 emissions, which guarantees high performance and reduces environmental impact.
